History

Back in 2010 the North Dorset Junior Netball Club was founded by Karen Peaty and Kevin Noyce as they felt there wasn’t enough Netball opportunities for children in the North Dorset area.

With about 20 children attending from its inception the club soon grew, attracting girls and boys from all over the North Dorset area.  The Clubs aim was to create an environment that promotes enjoyment, friendship, skill development, teamwork, individual achievement and above all respect for each other in a sporting environment. We also had some goals to provide children with further netball opportunities, whether this was match play, either at junior level or accessing adult league, or helping the players access the England Netball pathway as Satellite or county athletes

The club started with one training night a week, using the indoor court at Blandford Leisure centre, but as the numbers increased the club sought extra facilities, which led to a link with Blandford School and using a netball court with temporary floodlights. After a couple of seasons, again numbers increased and the cost of hiring the lights became too much a new opportunity arose to develop the Blandford schools other 3 outdoor netball courts with permanent floodlights. This has now been our home ever since.

The new floodlit courts have allowed us to offer even more netball to children in North Dorset and provide netball to a wider range of ages. In September 2016 we started a training session for year 3/4 which uses the indoor court, while our other groups use our outside courts.

Since the beginning the club has changed dramatically. We have changed our name to incorporate the fact that we now have adults playing for our club, not just children. The club has gone from polo shirts to playing tops to a new kit allowing players to wear dresses which was designed by one of our adult members. the changes have also occurred in playing terms, we have 5 teams who play in the adult, North Dorset Netball League – 3 adult teams, our U18, U16 and U14 team.  There are 7 teams playing in local junior leagues as well as an U16 and U14 team competing in the South West Regional League.

We are also proud we now have players in Satellite and County Training academies and also players who have made it in to Netball Franchise satellite squads.

Our dedicated coaches, currently 7 of them, headed by Karen and Kevin who are both UKCC Level 2 Netball coaches, deliver a quality netball development programme and have enabled the club to be a Bronze accredited Netball Club.

We are looking forward to the future of North Dorset Netball Club and if you would like to join us or know someone who would, we are currently looking for children in all age groups to come along to our Tuesday night training session (Years 3-6) which train 17.45 – 19.30 or Our Senior training which runs on a Thursday evening in 2 sessions. The first is for Year 7/8 which runs 17.45-19.30, the second for Year 9-13 which runs 19.00 – 20.30.
